Good oral health habits begin in childhood. That’s why the staff at Scotia Dental strives to make your child’s first visit to the dentist a positive one – paving the way for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
Your Child's First Visit
Like all of our patients, we recognize that some children need more time than others to feel comfortable in the dental chair. Our staff will be happy to spend some time with your child prior to their first appointment – showing them around the office, giving them a ‘ride’ in the chair, and providing an up-close look at how some of our equipment works. If your child feels comfortable after meeting our team, we can clean their teeth during this appointment. If not, they can choose to come back another day when they’re ready.
As parents, it’s only natural to want to prepare your child for their first dental visit. However, if you’re nervous about the visit it’s likely that your child will pick up on your emotions. Therefore, it’s best to stick to the basics, telling your child what they can expect at the dentist in very simple terms:
- The dentist will count your teeth.
- The dentist will brush your teeth.
- Nothing will hurt, or bother you. If it does, let the dentist know.
A child’s first dental visit is an important milestone in their lives – and in their oral health care. Our compassionate, friendly staff will do everything we can to ensure your kids are completely at ease throughout their visit.
