What is a Bone Graft?

Bone grafting is a procedure where your dentist adds bone tissue to your jaw bone, usually in preparation for a dental implant. Your dentist may recommend a bone graft if they believe that your jaw bone is too thin or soft to support an implant.

During a bone graft procedure, your dentist will graft bone from another part of your body or special bone grafting material onto your jaw bone.

Once the bone graft has healed, the dental implant can be placed.

Sinus Lifts

A sinus lift is a type of bone graft during which bone material is grafted to the upper back jaw at the position of the molar and premolar teeth in preparation for the placement of a dental implant.

Because the upper back jaw is a difficult area to reach, this procedure lifts the maxillary sinus membrane upwards to make space for the additional bone before the bone is added.
